Our Journey · Chapter 01

Where Our Journey Began

300 acres in Grand Bassa, a recent fire, and our first mission: divide the first 120 acres into four sections and begin the work.

On 25 January 2025, we secured 300 acres of land in Grand Bassa County, Liberia. This is where the story of MNC Farms begins: with the land, a plan for the first stage of development, and the people who came to help us get started.

Looking back at these photographs, we see the beginning of that work. Open ground, machinery on a dirt road, and people walking the site together capture a moment we want to remember.

A difficult first sight

A recent fire had burned through the vegetation on the land. At first, seeing the damage was disheartening. It was difficult to look at the bare ground and think about everything that had burned.

As we began to plan, however, we found that the cleared ground also helped us start the work. The sadness we felt at first remained part of the story, but there was a practical task ahead: deciding how to organise the land and where to begin.

Our first mission: 120 acres, four sections

Our first mission was to divide the first 120 acres into four sections. This would be the starting area within the wider 300 acres we had secured.

Having that first phase in mind gave the work a clear focus. We could begin organising the space, improving access, and taking the first steps towards developing the farm.

Making a way through the land

Roadwork became part of those first steps. The photographs show machinery working along a dirt track, with open land stretching out on either side.

Getting the roads into shape mattered. They gave us a way to move through the site and reach the areas where the next stages of work would take place.

The people who came to help

People came to help us begin this work. One of these early photographs shows the group walking along the newly worked road together.

That photograph is an important part of our beginning. Alongside the land and the machinery, there were people giving their time and help. We are grateful to everyone who was part of those first steps.

The first roads take shape

As the roadwork progressed, the tracks through the land became visible. The final photograph in this chapter shows one of those early routes, with the open ground around it still waiting for the work ahead.

For us, these photographs mark the start of a long process. We had secured the land, chosen the first 120 acres to focus on, and begun putting our plan into action. This was the opening chapter of MNC Farms.
